Smile Makeover, Part 2: How Can I Have Straighter Teeth?

October 14, 2011

Our last post introduced what we call “smile makeovers.” Today, we’ll spend a little time talking about one service that’s making smile makeovers easier and more convenient.

The Differences Between Braces and Invisalign Clear Braces

While traditional braces and braces from Invisalign can help you achieve the same results, they do so in very different ways. Traditional braces use brackets and wires to gradually shift your teeth into place. Invisalign, on the other hand, uses clear, custom-made acrylic trays.

Patients who’ve invested in a professional image often choose Invisalign over traditional braces, because Invisalign supports the image they’ve cultivated. Traditional braces, by comparison, can be off-putting because they’re so closely identified with adolescence.

Another benefit of Invisalign is that the trays you’ll be using are removable. That means you can take them out for meetings, for a night on the town, and for eating and brushing. You just can’t have this kind of convenience with traditional braces.

The last difference we’d like to highlight between traditional orthodontics and Invisalign is the way they straighten teeth.

Patients with traditional braces have to see their orthodontist every few weeks to have their wires tightened. That means time away from your busy schedule. But because Invisalign uses a series of custom-made trays, you’ll need to check in with us much less often. Just wear each set for two weeks at a time, then move on to the next set. There’s nothing to tighten and we’ll only need to see you so Dr. Hornstein can check on your progress.
