Tooth-Colored Fillings Beachwood

Seamless Cavity Control

Cavities are one of the most common dental issues; more than 90% of people will develop a cavity at some point in their life! In the past, this issue was treated with fillings made of silver amalgam, a dark-colored material that contains various types of metal, including toxic mercury. Today, though, a superior restorative option is available. Our Beachwood team is pleased to offer tooth-colored fillings, which are both aesthetically pleasing and remarkably biocompatible.

What Are Tooth-Colored Fillings?

A cavity is a small hole or pit in a tooth that is the result of decay. A filling replaces lost dentition and prevents the decay from worsening.

Fillings can be made out of various materials, but tooth-colored fillings are often regarded as the best option. They are made out of a biocompatible composite resin, which is a mixture of ultra-fine glass and plastic particles. Unlike old-fashioned amalgam fillings, tooth-colored fillings are completely metal-free. We can even shade-match them so they blend in seamlessly with the surrounding dentition.

The Process of Getting a Tooth-Colored Filling

The process of placing a tooth-colored filling is pretty easy and takes just one appointment.

First, we may numb your mouth (if your cavity is relatively shallow, you might not even need local anesthesia). Then, we remove decayed tissue from inside the cavity. Next, we place the tooth-colored resin into the cavity and harden it with a special curing light. To finish up the treatment, we adjust the filling so it will not interfere with your bite or irritate your oral tissues.

Your tooth might be a bit extra-sensitive for a short period of time after your treatment, but you should be able to eat and drink right away once you leave our office.

The Benefits of Tooth-Colored Fillings

Compared to metal fillings, tooth-colored fillings offer some remarkable benefits:

  • Natural appearance: Tooth-colored fillings are custom-shaded to match your natural teeth, so you enjoy a seamless and discreet restoration.
  • Metal-free safety: Since there is no metal in tooth-colored fillings, you avoid exposure to mercury and other metals found in traditional amalgam fillings.
  • Preservation of healthy structure: We remove less of your healthy tooth during placement, helping you maintain more of your natural dentition.
  • Durable and strong: Composite resin bonds tightly to tooth enamel, giving you long-lasting protection against future decay.
  • Reduced sensitivity: You will experience less temperature sensitivity compared to metal fillings, making eating and drinking more comfortable.
